Junior Data Engineer

We are looking for a motivated Junior Data Engineer who will contribute to both Sombra’s internal data initiatives and client projects in the data and analytics space. This role is ideal for someone with a solid foundation in Python and SQL, strong analytical thinking, and a desire to grow into a well‑rounded data professional.
You will work under the supervision of experienced engineers, helping to build and maintain data pipelines, ensure data quality, and deliver analytical datasets used across internal teams and client solutions.
Requirements:
- Basic experience with Python (Pandas, scripting, simple transformations).
- Practical knowledge of SQL (SELECT, JOIN, filters, basic aggregations).
- Understanding of ETL/ELT concepts and data pipeline fundamentals.
- Ability to work with logs, follow runbooks, and troubleshoot issues logically.
- Strong attention to detail, ownership, and eagerness to learn.
- English level – Intermediate + – Upper-Intermediate
Nice to Have:
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, Azure Data Fabric, Azure Data Factory, etc.).
- Basic understanding of distributed processing (Spark).
- Experience with Git and version control workflows.
- Exposure to BI tools such as Power BI or Looker.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in maintaining and improving ETL/ELT pipelines.
- Work with logs and monitoring tools to identify issues and follow runbooks.
- Participate in code reviews, follow engineering best practices, and propose improvements as you grow.
- Communicate effectively, ask questions early, and collaborate with the wider Data & AI team.
